NGU School Festival

Saturday, October 31, 2009

Since I invited Kenji to come to school today, I needed to hang out with him and Sakiko and tour them around school. I introduced them to all my exchange student friends and stayed close by while the rest of the exchange students give their presentations about their respective countries.

My presentation’s actually tomorrow and I haven’t prepared much for it. I mean, we have our presentation ready and all. Powerpoint and everything. But I haven’t made my script yet. Oh well. We’ll probably just play some videos and sing “Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang.”

AHAHAHAHA.

I keep putting off posting pictures at Multiply. I don’t use it that much anymore. I do, however, post my pictures on Facebook so…

NGU’s school festival is today and tomorrow. And although the place is pretty small compared to UP’s, it’s kinda the same — with food and everything.

So I’ve been looking for a music club here at school. Like a club that sings a LOT. That way, I get to meet new people and sing with them too. Anyway, so Sachiko helped me find this club that sings gospel music. It kind of reminds me of FCCY. I hope to god that they won’t be all preachy. I HATE preachy people. Can’t people just respect whatever you believe in without having to criticize it?

Tell you how that goes.

No seriously

I hardly have the time to update my online profiles and shiz. I dunno why. But I guess I finally weaned myself off the internet — I now enjoy human company more.

Everyone should be rejoicing right now.

Just probably not my mom since I don’t get to update her on my Japan life as much. Hihi. Sorry mom. I still love you.

Yesterday night, the boss called me up and asked me if I can cover a 9-3 shift for today. I said yes cause this is my chance to redeem myself after the incident 2/3 weeks ago.

I learned how to make miso soup. 赤だし (akadashi) and かに汁 (kanijiru). That, and put rice into a tray. Well, that was a lot of work you know! I had to oil the tray and then wait for the machine to make the rice into this certain shape. Ahaha.

But yeah — as much as I like this old lady, 辻さん (Tsuji san), she can be quite the nagger. Oh my god. For everything I do, she has something to say. I talked to some people about their jobs and bosses and stuff and reached a conclusion — people just don’t know when to shut up sometimes.

All night long

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

I’m not even surprised — Eyobe cut all his classes today. Lol. We’ve been talking about how our grades here don’t affect our grades back in our countries and it’s kinda blech to even put in all that effort. But then again, my pride keeps me from not letting go of my lessons here.

Jampacked day is how I’d describe today.

Class started 9:10. At 10:40, I went to meet Rich in the library to take his Math test (I knoooooooow D: I’ll ask him if he actually knows the stuff).

After that, I studied for my quiz for my class at 13:20. That Math test took me a long time cause I had to study one whole chapter’s worth of Math. Oh logarithm, how I’ve missed you.

Class until 14:50. The class was more chitchat than anything. Our long test is next week Tuesday and we kinda didn’t want to learn anything new before then.

I had to teach English at 15:05. And then after that, off to work until 21:00. Got home at 22:30 and studied (plus organize my notes) until 00:00.

After which I talked to my sister for a little more than half an hour — ranting about really random stuff.

P.S. Panic at the Disco’s second album is pure trash. In one of their songs, one of them said, “Sup!” near the end. WTF.

At all

Monday, October 19, 2009

I’ve been downloading new songs recently. I’m getting bored of the old stuff on my playlist. But at the same time, I hate weeding out songs that I don’t like. It’s just too much of a hassle. Meh.

Every week, I have to teach an English class twice a week. Fourth period of Mondays and Tuesdays.

Out of my 6 students on Mondays, only 1 came.  They only came to my class once before and already they don’t want me as their teacher. Boo.

Well, I guess you lose some.

So I just got a bunch of the exchange students to join in on my class. And it was fun. Too bad for the ones who didn’t come in.

I don’t know why but I didn’t have that much energy today. I was doing homework! Can you imagine?? That, and organizing my very messy stuff. Boo.

And my American friend is right. I don’t know why I’m helping him with his Calculus. I guess it’s for all the times that people back in the Philippines have helped me with my homework. He has to take an online Math test tomorrow. We’re going to meet up at the library during second period.

And now off I go to my lessons.

Shorty

Sunday, October 18, 2009

It’s funny how people here treat me like their younger sister. When any one of them is about to say something remotely R-rated, they’d tell me, “Earmuffs,” and I’m supposed to cover my ears. Funny in a silly way.

I was really pissed at Shibata for being such a retard but this is a battle that I won’t fight. You just have to learn how to choose your battles, apparently.

Well, since he won’t give me a room near school, I’ll just sleep at Karen’s room. Nyeh! I had to teach this morning so I woke up pretty early. Karen made me breakfast — curry!

So then after teaching Tatsuya, I went back to the dorm near school to hang out with Alan, Yuka and Karen. We biked to Nagoya Station. It’s my first time riding my bike there and it wasn’t far at all!

I like how the trees are starting to turn orange.

Oh. And something to think about. There’s this guy who’s also an exchange student who keeps a blog. A personal blog but definitely not as personal as how my blog has become. Anyway, when I told him that I chanced upon his blog, he told me that he would like to read my blog. And then I cringed. No way. I wouldn’t want anyone to read my blog. Lately I’ve become more… private (if that’s even possible).

Here’s the rant I posted on my FB

Friday, October 16, 2009

So there’s this girl Chelsea who’s going to be moving in with her bf next week. Or soon anyway. She lives in the annex and the school is still making her pay for the rent. I asked her if I can move to the annex to use her room since she’s gonna be living with her bf and she said yes. And then she told me to ask shibata about it first. So I did. Makes sense right? She’s paying for a room that she’s not gonna use and I’m going to be paying for mine which I don’t want to use.

And you know what he said? He said that since I’m not listed as a resident of the annex, they’re gonna give me penalty points if I stay there. And I told him that that doesn’t make sense. And then he gave me all this crap about how we signed a pledge or something or the other and how we got assigned to this dormitory and blahbullshit and how if you’re a scholar you’re supposed to be here.

Old argument. I’m a JASSO scholar. As far as I know, NGU isn’t the one giving me the money. The only thing they’re giving me is free tuition. And I don’t think they can put that over me since the girl from NGU’s tuition is free too, right? (Let’s just skip the fact that tuition at my school is only 10% of NGU’s.)

I told him, “How come Lachelle and Lisa were able to live at the seminar house?” (Sorry guys, couldn’t help it. I don’t think it can actually affect you negatively. Plus, it’s kind of funny how the two of you didn’t really live at the seminar house. Haha.) And then he goes to say that there was room at the seminar house at that time. And I tell him that there’s room now. And he just tells me about how Chelsea has the room till Dec and that if I wanna move there I need to pay for both rents. And I’m like, “I’m a student. Do you know anyone who will pay ¥75,000 a month for rent?” And he tells me that in Tokyo, rent is that high.

Well we’re not in freaking Tokyo, are we?

And here’s the really wtf part. He told me that if I’m going to get mad, I should get mad at Naoto for having a party and I’m like, “関係がありません.” Duh. Anyone who’s not stupid will tell you that what Naoto did has nothing to do with whatever we’re talking about. And oh my god, can he please let that go? :/

How can anyone be so stupid? How can anyone argue like that? Did he freaking go to school? Freak.

And he kept telling me, “It can’t be helped.”

I was on the verge of telling him, “Are you freaking kidding me?”

So yeah, I’m still going to be commuting to school everyday for an hour. Paying way more for everything — rent, transpo, internet and electricity.

Bring it on

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

I told you I’d post my homework c: Horribly crammed but I posted it anyway cause it kinda looks like I actually know what the hell I’m doing.

Work was horrible at first. I was practically falling asleep on my feet. I guess the reason why I was so happy and hyper yesterday was because I drank coffee right before my shift. Add the fact that the girl I work with, Igari (I think), taught me how to collect all the trash in these plastics, separate them, and then bring them down to the trash collection area. The trash wasn’t unpleasant. It didn’t really smell or anything. The trash collection area was a nightmare. I practically didn’t want to go in because of the fact that HUGE RATS WERE CRAWLING EVERYWHERE. DRAT!!!! And Igari was all, “Don’t be scared, they won’t come near you…” But all I really care about was, “HOLY CRAP I HATE RATS I HATE RATS I HATE RATS. THEY’RE FREAKING FRAKING HUUUUUUUUGE!”

But then after that, I got assigned to the kitchen, which was awesome cause I didn’t need to be out in the hall serving people. And then there was eating sushi (one or two pieces) secretly with two of the girls I work with. Secretly meaning we didn’t let our bosses know. They were throwing out the sushi anyway. It’s wrong but we were hungry. At least, I was. I dunno what their motives were. Anyway, it’s supposed to be a secret so SHHHHHHHHH. I got to bond with the people I work with over that little stint. I is happy.

P.S. I talked to this guy in my school who’s from Peru. He speaks Spanish! I introduced myself in Spanish and was able to answer his questions. Teeheeheeeeee. Sister, you’ll be sooooooo proud of me.

Apples

Monday, October 5, 2009

I’ve been cracking the banana joke in Japanese practically all day. You prolly know that joke — you ask, “What’s Beethoven’s favorite fruit?” and you go, “Ba na na na~!” to the tune of one of Beethoven’s works.

So I ask, Beethovenは一番好きなくだものが知ってる?

I think I made people laugh. I’m not sure though.

Great news.

I think I’m really enjoying work. Like waitressing? I’m finally learning the art of spacing out and not letting the boredom get to me. Not that it’s going to make me more stupid, right? Right?!

So this girl I’m working with is turning 19 on the 29th. I kinda wanna buy her a gift even though we’re not that close. I mean… We talk. With her native Japanese and my broken one. I guess I feel sorry for her. She’s only 18 and already, she’s stopped school. She’s so adorably sad :c

Once, I saw her in the changing area, sitted on the desk, studying kanji on her own. When I came, she hid her workbook :s I asked Ryuji once why she’s not studying anymore and he just answered, “Personal reasons.”

So yeah.

If I can buy myself an iPod, I can certainly spare a few yen for a friend right? She’s always been so nice to me. Always smiling. I’m really lucky that my workplace is so chill — with everyone being so nice.

I hear about how Ryou’s part-time at the ice cream place and I cringe to think how I’d turn out if there’s a bitchy girl where I work. And then there’s Shin Tan and OShin who used to work for a place that had such a horrible boss that they both quit (I don’t think they got all the money they’re supposed to get).

Penny for your thoughts?
